Maddie’s Welcome Into the Family of God

Our daughter, Anna Sprouse and her husband, brought their three week old baby, Maddie Elizabeth, to visit in late September. Anna mentioned she’d like to have Maddie baptized before they left. After checking with those who would be involved, we found we would need to hold the service the following Friday evening. So I called Father Marty, wondering if he would agree to coming up to our church at that time. Not only did he agree, he was enthusiastic! Patricia Arck agreed to be the godmother. Father Marty helped me assemble the bulletins. On Friday, Oct. 2nd, at 6 p.m., 12 of us gathered at St. George Church for this special event. Some of the highlights included Audrey, Maddie’s 13 month old cousin, crawling as fast as she could up and down and aisle; a lovely homily by Marty’s wife Penny; Audrey reaching to touch the drops of water as Jeff and I poured the water into the font; Maddie’s serene behavior. It is hard to find words to describe how this spontaneous event was filled with such joy and love. We are so grateful to Father Marty and Patricia Arck and the St. George community. It was extraordinary!
